Said Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said Tuesday that China is ready to post a
bigger role in resolving sovereign debt crisis in Europe.
Wen made the remarks during his meeting with journalists, European Council President Herman Van Rompuy and European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso after a meeting between leaders of the Fourteenth China and the EU.
He said China will document communication and coordination with the European side on this issue.
He said that China has a strong desire to support the European Union in tackling the debt problem.
Van Rompuy said that China's support has helped the European Union and the euro area to restore confidence, and they are looking forward to strengthen this cooperation in order to strengthen the stability of the euro area.
Wen said during the summit, as stated in a press release announced by Chinese Foreign Ministry, said that China supports the European Union in promoting fiscal discipline, and hopes to create a European side and a positive environment conducive to the deepening of financial cooperation between China and the EU.
At the beginning of the summit, Wen said that mutual understanding and joint efforts to deal with the difficulties and challenges to serve the common interests of China and the EU.
In his speech at a summit held on the sidelines of the meeting of the leaders, the President of the Council of State reiterated that China supports the efforts of Europe, since the EU comprehensive strategic partner.
He said that joint efforts by the international community to deal with the European debt crisis is very important for the stability and recovery of the global economy and global financial system.
He said that China supports the important role played by the major international financial institutions in order to address the crisis, and pointed out that China will remain open and positive about the increase in IMF resources.
He said China is also considering more involved in addressing the problem through the mechanism of the European financial stability, and the mechanism of the European stability.
He said China is confident the European economy and the stability of the euro, and believes that the crisis will be overcome if the EU has been united, and have enhanced trust, and the adoption of appropriate policies, pointing out that the key to solving the problems is the efforts of the European Union itself.
